OUR LABORATORY

Foundation towards application

We are passionate about creating bioactive materials for tissue engineering and drug delivery systems. Since the foundation of the lab supported by the Department of Chemical Engineering and the Biomedical Engineering Program, we have been studying the basic science of biomaterials, especially those native to Thailand such as Thai silk, Thai fish collagen and calcium phosphate and keratin. Through global collaboration and recent integration of biomedical engineering researchers, we have translated some of our basic findings into applications. We, for example, created scaffolds, micro-/nanoparticles, films and hydrogels from the Thailand's prestigious biomaterials.

BEMH against COVID-19

Asst. Prof. Juthamas Rattanavaraporn, chair of the Biomedical Engineering Program and a member of BEMH, with her colleagues innovated mobile vehicles with positive air pressure. The innovation is called 'mobile positive vehicles' or MPVs. The MPVs are intended for protecting physicians/nurses from direct contact with COVID-19 patients or any persons under investigation (PUI). The MPVs are currently in use in hospitals in Bangkok and southern provinces. BEMH is very much proud to help keep the COVID-19 in control.

EU financial support continues

August 2020: BEMH wholeheartedly congratulates Asst. Prof Sorada Kanokpanont, our lab members, and our international colleague on the continuation of the EU grant. Asst. Prof. Kanokpanont had put countless efforts towards the accomplishment of the EU-funded collaborative research activities under the programme called 'REMIX'. With such generous support, the members of CEBEMH including students, research assistants, and faculty members gained memorable experiences in European countries.

This year, the European Commission announced the continuation of the support for the REMIX, which will become 'SHIFT'. The SHIFT programme seeks to build up on the foundation laid down during REMIX. Knowledge and innovation will be uplifted to the industrial level. The opportunity to do research overseas for BEMHRU's members thus comes again. The opportunity is also open for successful applicants to our Center.
